Privacy Policy for SnapGuard

Effective Date: July 8, 2026

SnapGuard ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience on our mobile application. This Privacy Policy outlines our data processing practices, specifically detailing how we collect, use, and protect your data when you use SnapGuard.

By using SnapGuard, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

1. Core Functionality & Sensitive Permissions

SnapGuard is a security application designed to protect your device by identifying unauthorized individuals who attempt to unlock it. To provide this core functionality, SnapGuard requires several sensitive permissions. We only use these permissions to fulfill the app’s stated purpose.

A. Device Administrator Privilege (BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN)

SnapGuard requires Device Administrator privileges.

  • Why it's needed: This permission is strictly used to monitor failed screen unlock attempts (incorrect PIN, Pattern, or Password).
  • How it's used: We only monitor for failed unlock events. We do not access, store, or monitor your actual passwords, PINs, or screen lock patterns. You can revoke this permission at any time via the app's settings (using the "Safe Uninstall" feature) or your device's security settings.

B. Background Camera Access

SnapGuard requires access to your device's front-facing camera, including while the app is running in the background.

  • Why it's needed: When a failed unlock attempt is detected, SnapGuard secretly captures a photo (and optionally a video in the PRO version) of the person attempting to access your device.
  • How it's used: The camera is only triggered upon an incorrect unlock attempt. We do not record video or capture photos continuously, nor do we access the camera for any other purpose.

C. Background Location Access (GPS)

SnapGuard requests access to your device's precise location (GPS) in the background.

  • Why it's needed: To help you locate a lost or stolen device, SnapGuard captures your device's exact coordinates when an unauthorized unlock attempt occurs.
  • How it's used: Location data is only fetched immediately following a failed unlock attempt. We do not track your location continuously or store a history of your movements.

D. Overlay Permission (Display over other apps)

SnapGuard requests the SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW permission to draw over other apps.

  • Why it's needed: This permission is used to display security warnings (e.g., Fake Warning Message) or the "Fake OS Shutdown" screen directly over the lock screen to deter thieves.

2. Data Storage, Processing, and Transfer

The media (photos/videos) and location data captured by SnapGuard are highly sensitive. We handle them as follows:

  • Local Storage: By default, all captured photos, videos, and location logs are encrypted and stored locally in the app's private directory on your device. They are not visible in your public photo gallery.
  • Email Alerts & Google Drive Sync (Optional): If you choose to enable Email Alerts or Google Drive Sync, SnapGuard uses the official Google APIs (Gmail API and Google Drive API) to send the email directly from your device and upload the media to your personal Google Drive.
  • Zero Server Interception: All data transfers happen directly between your device and Google's servers. We do not have access to your Google account, nor do your photos, videos, or location data ever pass through, or get stored on, our developer servers.
  • Google API Compliance: SnapGuard's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

To ensure your maximum privacy, SnapGuard DOES NOT:

  • Collect or transmit your contacts, messages, browsing history, or personal files.
  • Sell, rent, or share any of your data with third-party advertising or marketing agencies.
  • Track your location continuously.
  • Access the microphone (audio recording is disabled).

4. Usage Data and Analytics

We may collect non-personally identifiable usage data and crash reports to improve the stability and performance of SnapGuard.

  • This data includes your device model, operating system version, and logs of app crashes.
  • You can opt out of sharing usage statistics at any time through the app's Settings menu (Settings -> General & Support -> Usage Statistics).

5. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

SnapGuard offers premium features (SnapGuard PRO) through Google Play Billing.

  • All payment processing is handled securely by Google Play.
  • We do not collect, process, or store your credit card information or banking details.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Local Data: You can delete all locally captured logs, photos, and videos at any time by clearing the "Alerts History" within the app.
  • App Uninstallation: Uninstalling SnapGuard will automatically delete all locally stored captures. If you used the Google Drive sync feature, your photos will remain safe in your personal Google Drive until you manually delete them.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date" at the top. We advise you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
